World Cup 2026 African Teams: Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and More
Africa sends nine teams to the 2026 World Cup — its largest-ever allocation. After Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals in Qatar, African football has never been more respected on the global stage.
Morocco 🇲🇦 (Group C)
The 2022 semi-finalists are Africa’s highest-ranked team and genuine dark horse contenders for the quarter-finals or beyond. In Group C alongside Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland, they have a realistic chance of advancing in first or second place. Their defensive organisation and counter-attacking speed are world-class.
Senegal 🇸🇳 (Group I)
African champions and consistently one of the continent’s best-performing sides, Senegal are in Group I with France, Iraq, and Norway. Advancing from a group containing France will be tough, but Senegal have the quality to take points from anyone.
Egypt 🇪🇬 (Group G)
Egypt in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand are well-placed to advance as one of the group’s stronger sides. Historically one of Africa’s most successful nations, Egypt are returning to the World Cup with a competitive squad.
Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 (Group E)
Ivory Coast face Germany, Curaçao, and Ecuador in Group E. With Germany as clear group favourites, the battle for second place between Ivory Coast and Ecuador will be one of the group stage’s most competitive.
DR Congo 🇨🇩 (Group K)
DR Congo in Group K alongside Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Colombia are the group underdogs but bring physicality and pace that can cause problems on a good day.
Ghana 🇬🇭 (Group L)
Ghana in Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama will need to find something extra to advance from a competitive group. Their tournament experience and technical ability give them a chance.
Algeria 🇩🇿 (Group J)
Algeria face Argentina, Austria, and Jordan in Group J. A famous victory over Germany in 2014 shows what Algeria can produce in moments of inspiration. They will be determined to advance past the group stage.
Tunisia 🇹🇳 (Group F)
Tunisia in Group F with Netherlands, Japan, and Sweden face a difficult group but are always competitive. Their defensive organisation makes them tough opponents.
Cape Verde 🇨🇻 (Group H)
The smallest nation in this year’s tournament by population, Cape Verde have been one of African football’s remarkable success stories. In Group H with Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay, they face a very tough group.
